How To Bake a Paleo Protein Bars At Home

By Kate Colace

The paleo lifestyle is growing in popularity, and so is the market for paleo-friendly protein bars. The trouble is that they can get pricey, and they may not have the flavor selections you are looking for.

If you know what I'm talking about, and you enjoy testing out new recipes - why not create your own homemade protein bars? They may take some time to bake, and they do not come in convenient single-serving packs, but with some practice and some air tight plastic bags, you can develop your own healthy protein bars that you can carry with you in the car, to the gym or while traveling.

If you have actually ever checked out the labels for paleo bars, you probably have noticed a few similarities. There are usually less than ten ingredients, and many consist of nuts, coconut, protein powder and in some cases dried fruit.

These are all items that you can buy at your neighborhood supermarket, mix in a blender, lay out in a baking tray and cook for approximately 10-20 minutes. When finished, you just take the baking dish out to cool, cut your bars into squares and place in air-tight containers that are ready to eat when you are.

The first couple of recipes that you make might turn out some unexpected results as far as finding the flavor and consistency you enjoy most. There are several cost-free recipes online that you can browse by conducting a fast search in a search engine.

Once you find a recipe that you like, you can get nuts, seeds and protein powder in bulk to save money. Not only will you be eating healthy - you will be saving money as well!

Nuts, obviously, include protein, but some people add egg or protein powder to increase the quantity.

Nuts, shredded coconut and dried berries will not stick on their own. You want to add ingredients like nut butter, coconut oil with flax seed meal or honey to keep all of the components from falling apart.

Seasonings such as vanilla or cinnamon can spice up your bars, together with a touch of salt. Get innovative with the paleo items you include in your very own dishes, as this can enhance the flavor, enhance the variety and make it easier to enjoy the paleolithic way of life.
