If you have a great performance of your test, there is a big chance to enter and accepted by the school. You must study all the guides for the OAT about the requirements, rules of conduct, test regulations and testing procedures. Once you have already learned the guidelines, you can immediately enroll for the exam. You have also the choice to take an OAT preparatory program to develop your overall performance.

You must complete a doctor of optometry course. This will take four years before the completion and must be done in an accredited school. The cost for the course depends on the school you have chosen. You should also consider in completing a postgraduate residency program.

These residency programs allow most of the optometrists to obtain practice working in their field. This is under the guidance of the professionals and to develop more their skills. Residency programs are a noble practice and helpful, especially there are individuals in the overall population who ware underprivileged.

Every state requires each of the practitioners to obtain a license. However, before gaining your license, you need to take several oral or written exams. You also need to take additional tests, if the state requires you to do so. For your license renewal, you should first check the policies in you state to be aware of the requirements. You must renew your license, to keep it active and current.
