The makers of Alkaline Water Ionizers make stunning claims for their product. According to them, it can cure anything from cancer to tiredness. But can it really do this? Let's see.
Every one of your body fluids have different pH readings. Some are alkaline others acidic. One example is gastric acid. It needs to have a low pH (Acidic) or your food would not be digested. your blood is required to be slightly alkaline or you'll die.
Our bodies have excellent mechanisms for maintaining these balances. So, biologically speaking, alkaline water cannot change these measurements.
Keeping the above in mind it would be interesting to see just what happens when you drink a glass of alkaline water. First it would enter your stomach where the stomach juices would strip it of it's alkalinity. From there it would pass into the large intestine where it would again get alkalized.
Exactly what has happened? Yes, the body turned the water acid and then alkaline again. So any water you drink becomes alkaline in the end!
So don't waste your time and hard earned cash on an alkaline water ionizer in the false belief that it will neutralize acid in your body. It can't!
Anti-Oxidant?
Anti-Oxidant Properties?
Why is it that some believe alkaline water can cure cancer? According to the manufacturers of the ionizing machine it is because the water becomes an anti-oxidant. This means that it takes on surplus electrons that will then remove "free radicals".
You could almost believe it, except for the fact that the body already has a system in place to continually rid you of free radicals. Not only that, but it's millions of times more effective too!
Something of a problem crops up here. Is this fancy water really an anti-oxidant anyway?
Well consider this: What does bleach do?It's oxidizing power strips colour from things such as your clothes. It does this since it is an OXIDANT. Now did you know that alkaline water can bleach the colour from iodine? Yes it really can! it'll accomplish this because (wait for it... ) it is an OXIDANT!
A cancer curing anti-oxidant? I don't think so.
