There are numerous techniques for toning up, losing weight and achieving a desired figure. Most people employ a combination of regular exercise and healthy eating. However, there are cases where stubborn pockets of fat appear that no amount of dieting or exercise can eliminate. Liposuction surgery or fat removal surgery helps to remove these persistent fats and reshape the affected areas of the body. Contrary to a common belief, it is not designed to be used as a quick weight loss technique.

There are several things that must be carried out before the procedure. The individual should have adequate information on the various aspects of the subject. The required assistance can be obtained from a qualified surgeon. During the consultation, the surgeon examines the affected areas, discusses the results expected, and explains the different variations of the surgery, the costs involved and any risks likely to occur.

Not everyone is eligible for the fat removal procedure. To qualify for the procedure individuals are required to be above 18 years, in proper health, and be under exercise and dieting program. Other factors that affect eligibility are infections, diabetes and any complications of the heart and the circulatory system. There is a set limit of fat that can be eliminated from the body without causing any complications hence overweight individuals may be ineligible.

The surgery is performed under a general or local anaesthetic and the patient has to be sedated. It usually lasts for about two hours depending on the work involved and is considered to be a day case. The surgeon usually makes a tiny incision in the area which is followed by the insertion of cannula connected to a vacuum device which facilitates the removal of the fat deposits more efficiently.

It is common in cosmetic surgery where is it is performed to achieve a specified physique. The common body parts where it is used include the abdomen, buttocks and the back. Others are thighs, calves, upper arms, face, neck flab and knees. In combination with other techniques, it yields excellent results. To regain their pre-pregnancy body shapes, mothers undergo mommy makeover.

There are a number of variations of liposuction procedure. The general steps involved in the different processes are typically the same. These include tumescent, ultrasound-assisted, water-assisted, laser liposuction and abdominal etching. The various techniques employed help to carry out the procedure with much ease.

There are numerous risks associated with different surgeries. The risks associated with this procedure include infection, anaesthesia complications and bleeding. A majority of these risks can be reduced by taking precautions prior and after the surgery. Smokers are advised to quit smoking until the incisions heal completely. In addition, avoiding nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin minimizes bleeding during and after the surgery.

Liposuction surgery is a very beneficial procedure. It reshapes affected body parts and improves the proportion of the body which enhances the image of the individual. The deposits of fats on the various body parts may be caused by a number of factors. These may be genetic, dietary or lack of physical exercises.
