It Is Becoming More Commonplace: Medical Esthetics and Medical Esthetics Training.

By Roxy Albright

When you last visited your local mall or shopping center, did you wonder what the new medical spa offering medical esthetics training and services was? Maybe you bold enough to venture inside for a peek and/or brave enough to actually ask someone there what types of services they offer? And then again, maybe not! If you did sneak a look inside you might have been a little confused or even surprised to see services ranging from botox injections to laser certification required procedures. You might have wondered if all of this these procedures can really be performed in the mall? After all, what is this medical esthetics stuff?

To those unfamiliar with it, medical esthetics training and other medical spa services might be a whole new world. In fact, even though these types of services are very common and many, many of these services are offered every day, there are still people to whom the services of certified estheticians are completely foreign. So? What is this esthetics thing all about anyway? Who benefits most from it and what are the benefits? What are the most common types of procedures?

Both medical esthetics training and medical esthetics involve high-technology skin care and represent an almost perfect blending of the healthcare field and beauty services. Most services performed within esthetics use advanced technologies to provide medically based procedures. These procedures often result in significant cosmetic change or enhancement. It is important to distinguish that these procedures do not involve the use of surgery, as only licensed medical personnel are allowed to perform such, especially when anesthesia is involved. A licensed esthetician often uses lasers, with the proper training and laser certification, and other energy based devices to reach desired outcomes.

The baby-boomer generation presents a significant boost to medical esthetics training and medical esthetics. As this group of people reaches into their 50's, the demand for anti-aging services has increased dramatically. The ability to provide drastic changes to appearance without the need for surgery has been a perfect match for this segment of the population. Estheticians can provide services that range from the removal of unwanted hair to cellulite reduction. Wrinkles can be reduced quite simply and tattoos can also be removed without too much fuss. This segment, and all other segments of the population, can also benefit from spider veins being eliminated and birthmarks being removed through aesthetic services. Daily, in many spas across the county, skin is tightened and acne and acne scars are eliminated without the use of medication. The treatment for all of these conditions falls within the realm of medical esthetics.

The most commonly requested procedure involves the use of Botox injections. These injections utilize an injection of a mild neurotoxin under the skin which inhibits signals to the brain affecting different facial muscles or other body parts. Because these muscles are then paralyzed, the formation of wrinkles and fine lines is eliminated and similar injections to the underarms and palms can also curb such conditions as excessive sweating. It is obvious that high technology skin care is gaining momentum as more people learn about and turn to aesthetic services to gain back confidence about the way they appear and present to others.

Since medical esthetics training and laser certification services are becoming increasingly popular, chances are that they are offered at a location near you.
